What is Powerboat Awareness?
This course will provide you with the skills and background knowledge needed to confidently and safely operate a powerboat.
The course has both theoretical and practical learning including the key areas of close quarters handling, high speed manoeuvres and man overboard recovery and collision regulations.

Course Syllabus
- Personal Clothing & Equipment
- Boat Safety Equipment
- Launching & Recovery
- General Powerboat Handling including: Slow speed, Holding off, Approach, Mooring, Anchoring, Planing Speed, Marina manoeuvring
- Emergency Situations Theoretical including: Cold shock, Immersion hypothermia, Distress signals, Emergency actions, Fire
- Emergency Situations Practical including: Man overboard approaches - Drift down & Into wind, Recovery of a man overboard
- General Seamanship including: Types of craft, GPS & Chart plotters, Charts, Tides & tidal streams, Weather, Buoys
- Regulations Including: International Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea, Local bylaws
Certification
In order to successfully complete the course, delegates must complete both theoretical learning including examination, and a practical assessment to demonstrate the application of knowledge gained, all based on the RYA Powerboat Level 2.
Delegates will receive a non-accredited certificate upon completion.
