What does PUWER stand for?
P.U.W.E.R. stands for Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
What is PUWER?
This update of the 1992 legal regulation covers many types of work equipment and machinery used every day in workplaces.
Its goal is to keep employed people safe wherever equipment and machinery are used, whether that's a self-employed one man band or large corporation.

PUWER Risk Assessments and Training
As well as ensuring any equipment is safe and fit for purpose via a risk assessment, PUWER also makes provision for staff operating equipment to ensure suitable training has been given. This may require daily safety checks as well as more detailed 6 or 12 monthly inspections by a "competent person".
